What Is A Headshot?

A headshot is a portrait of a person which highlights the person's face. Headshots vary from head and shoulders to a close-up of the face, however portraits can also be 3/4 to full-length. Headshots normally portray a realistic view of the subject, but can be as creative as the client needs or wants.

Headshots are used by professionals and business people for publicity and marketing. The same is true with "creatives" such as musicians, actors, authors, etc. Models have been most connected to headshots used for their comp cards, although "faceshots" are now the norm. A new trend is headshots being used for uses such as personal websites and dating sites and networking sites such as Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn and Twitter.
